BREAKING: Key Hispanic $500K Hillraiser Defects To Obama Over Tone

This doesn't bode well for Hillary's future prospects:

NBC News has learned that a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton, former [Clinton Administration] Amb. to Chile Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon is leaving the campaign to join up Barack Obama's campaign. Officially dubbed a "Hillraiser," Guerra-Mondragon raised nearly $500,000 for Clinton's campaign, according to some estimates. He has been informing people inside Clintonworld this week in what's been described as some tough conversations. A formal announcement of a role for Guerra-Mondragon on Obama's national finance committee will be made next week.

This could easily resonate in Puerto Rico.  More on Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon:

In addition to his foreign service experience, Ambassador Guerra-Mondragón is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; a former member of the Puerto Rican Legal and Education Defense Fund; and a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association.

He is the grandson of Miguel Guerra Mondragón, who was a very well-known local attorney and politician.

The reason for the defection is pretty clear.

Among the reasons for Guerra-Mondragon to defect, according to one informed source, was he was uneasy with the tone of the Clinton campaign and was beginning to worry about what this would mean for the general election.

The latest Rasmussen PA Poll certainly echoes the effects of Hillary's Campaigning Strategy

What a difference two weeks of intense campaigning can make. The final two weeks of campaigning in the Pennsylvania Primary may not have changed the outcome of the Democratic race, but it helped John McCain in the Keystone State.

Two weeks ago, in Pennsylvania, Hillary Clinton enjoyed a nine-point lead over McCain and Barack Obama had an eight-point edge over the Republican hopeful. Now, however, Clinton's lead is down to five points and Obama trails McCain by a point.

Democrats, even Hillary Supporters, have to wake up to the fact that this process is anything but helpful.  And One wonders if these sorts of defections will begin to make a bigger splash in the news.  There are Committed superdelegates, and then there are Hillraisers. I'd argue a Hillraiser is about as close to Hardcore as they come, and for such a high level prominent one to defect at this point, well, it doesn't bode well for Hillary... Not when Obama is essentially starting his General Election campaign by Registering Voters and Fundraising for the DNC.  He'll also take on Fox News Sunday.

We are clear-eyed about Fox''s role in the dissemination and amplification of Republican talking points this election. They have been the tip of the spear when it comes to repeatedly broadcasting some of the most specious of rumors about Obama. He is going on their Sunday show to take Fox on, not because we have any illusion about their motives or politics in this election.

I'm going to be sure to tune in, I hope you'll join me.

PS: Be sure to watch Obama's Interview today Live with the Indianapolis Star, starting at 3PM EST.

Is this the strategy now? (2.00 / 1)

If Obama gets the nomination, they know he is certain to lose, so they are blaming everything bad that happens to Obama on Clinton?  Wow.  If Democrats think Clinton is being mean to Obama, just wait for the GOP.

If you are going to ask such asinine questions (2.00 / 1)

you should probably answer the implied reversal first.

We'll take that as a "no." (2.00 / 0)

Not surprising, since a convention floor fight over delegates and credentialing is your wet dream.

How assuming can you get? (none / 0)

You and the commenter above are just as much loyalists to your candidate as I am to mine.  Is arrogance a common trait among Obama supporters, or is it just you two?

It's a yes or no question. (2.00 / 0)

I've said several times I'll vote for Senator Clinton if she somehow is the nominee.  I find her campaign disgusting, but I think she's overall had an heroic life and should be a role model for many.

Either one can and will win, and you can hogtie me before I'd vote for McSame.

See, it's not hard.

Barack Obama (none / 0)

is the most disingenuous, duplicitous, and self-centered politicians I have ever seen.  I would call him a perfect example of a political con artist.  I find him absolutely disgusting.

It has never crossed my mind not to vote for him if he is the nominee.

The question is still asinine.

That's some strong Kool-aid, Cletus. (2.00 / 0)

If you say so.  (I try to avoid personal slurs--it's Senator Clinton's recent conduct I find alarming, not her as a person.)

The question is actually quite important, given the large percentage of Clinton supporters in previous polls who claimed they would switch to McCain rather than support our nominee.  In addition, the implausible level of vitriol you bring to this makes it a salient question.

Did it ever occur to you (none / 0)

that those persons supporting Clinton were never going to support Obama in the first place?  Did it ever occur to you that Obama's base support is really, truly just made up of party activists?  There are a lot of ways to read polls, poll ways of reading those polls you mention are frightening if Obama gets the nomination.

Re: Did it ever occur to you (2.00 / 1)

Those Damn party activists,  what do they REALLY do?

All they do is spend all their free time and money getting people to finally stop voting against their self interests.

What bastards, why don't they just leave our Grand Old Democratic Party and go to the republicans?

Re: I somehow doubt (2.00 / 1)

I sure as hell would vote for her,  she might be a weak politician with a short career for her age but why the hell would I vote for McCain who guarantees to intentionally sink my country further and further down the gutter.

Why would I vote for a person that will cause my fellow citizens to die and dollars to leave my pocket and that of my future kin?

The same question should be posed to you in reverse, would you vote for McCain?

I firmly commit that if she wins the most pledged (2.00 / 1)

delegates I'll vote for her in the general, and I'll do it in a pink bunny suit, take pictures, and post them here on MyDD.

However, if she doesn't win the most pledged delegates, and steals the nomination, I'll write in Obama.

Re: BREAKING: Key Hispanic $500K Hillraiser Defect (2.00 / 1)

" If Democrats think Clinton is being mean to Obama, just wait for the GOP."

Their concern is not that Obama is being hurt (polls show he hasn't been), but that the Clinton and Democratic brands are being degraded.

Re: BREAKING: Key Hispanic $500K Hillraiser Defect (none / 0)

It's amazing how some people don't get what you said, but also how Obama is hampered from really letting loose on Hillary because he needs her votes. Hillary knows she can't win so trying to win over Obama votes is an afterthought, hence the kitchen sink strategy.
If by some weird miracle she blows him out in Indiana, I would expect her rhetoric will soften up so she can appeal to Obama's independents......
